Get found. Get paid.

Your shop online, payments straight to your bank, and points that bring customers back. Free to get listed.

Three ways to get paid.

Take Pay by Bank at your counter.

Six solutions. One Back office.

Everything is yours the day you’re approved, on every plan.

Visibility

Your own web address and a page in the Smyl app. When someone near you searches for something you stock, your shop shows up.

Pay by Bank

Customers approve in their own banking app. No card terminal to rent, and Smyl never holds your money.

A florist smiles as her customer scans the payment code on a tablet at the counter

Rewards

Customers earn Smyl points when they pay by bank, and spend them at your counter. Smyl pays you what they spend.

Receipts

Cash, card or bank, scan the customer’s code and their receipt lands in the app.

Back office

Catalogue and stock, sales and receipts, posts and your team, all in one place.

  • Catalogue and stock
  • Sales and receipts
  • Posts for your followers

Insights

Which searches found you, how many follow you, and how many came back.

Free to list. Your plan follows your sales.

What your customers are told on smylpay.com

  • 1 point for every whole £1 they pay you by bank, with daily limits.
  • Cash and card don’t earn points.
  • What their points are worth, or that spending is paused, shown live on smylpay.com and in the app.
  • Points have no cash value.
  • “Points expire if you don’t earn or spend any for 12 months. Earning or spending any points starts the 12 months again. The 12 months pause while points can’t be spent anywhere on Smyl. We’ll remind you at least 30 days before.”
  • Smyl pays you the value of the points they spend, every month.

Points rules

See pricing

At the counter.

One scan takes the payment, sends the receipt and gives your customer their points.

  1. Ring it up

Tap items from your catalogue, or just type the total when it’s busy.

  2. Scan or show

Scan the customer’s Smyl code, or let them scan the code on your screen.

  3. They approve it

They approve the payment in their own banking app.

  4. Paid

The money is in your bank account, usually within seconds. Their receipt and points are on their phone.

Paying by cash or card instead? Scan their Smyl code and they still get a receipt.

How joining works.

  1. Apply

Fill in the short form below. It takes two minutes.

  2. We call you

Someone from Smyl rings to talk it through and answer your questions.

  3. We set you up

You get your web address and your Back office invite. Add your opening hours and catalogue, and change them whenever you like.

  4. Get verified

To take payments, we check your business, your ID and that the bank account is yours. You’re listed and findable while we do. What you’ll need is below.

  5. Agree and go live

You see your plan and its price in your Back office and agree to them. Then we switch Pay by Bank on, and you’re ready to take payments.

What you’ll need to get verified

The owner adds these in the Back office. Smyl’s review team checks them, and our verification and payment providers see what they need to confirm your business. They’re never shown on your page or to your staff.

  • How your business is set up: sole trader, partnership (with the other partners’ names) or limited company (its Companies House name or number, and which director you are). We check a company with Companies House ourselves.
  • Your date of birth and home address.
  • A photo of your passport’s photo page (UK or other), or of the front and back of your UK photocard driving licence.
  • The bank account payments should go to, business or personal. The name on it must match: we check it with the bank.
  • Sometimes, a document showing you trade at your shop’s address, such as a business rates bill. We’ll ask if we need it.

Questions about Smyl for businesses

Do I need new equipment?

No. Smyl runs on the phone or tablet you already have. There’s no card terminal to rent and nothing to install at the till.

Does it replace my till?

No. Smyl sits beside it. Keep taking cash and cards the way you do now, and use Smyl for the customers who want to pay by bank. If your connection drops, the basket you’re building is kept on the device.

When does the money arrive?

Payments go over Faster Payments, straight from your customer’s bank to yours, so they usually land within seconds. Smyl never holds your money.

Can I see who my customers are?

No, and that’s on purpose. You see totals: how many people follow you, how many came back, which searches found you. Never names. Shoppers are happy to follow and pay you because of that.

Can other shops see my sales?

Never. Your sales, followers and insights are private to you and your team. What shoppers see is what you publish: your page, catalogue, prices, hours and posts.

Why do you need to verify my business?

Before you can take payments, we and our payment provider have to check that your business is real, that you are who you say, and that the bank account belongs to the business. It protects you and your customers. You can be listed and found while that’s happening. Once you’re verified, you see your plan and its price in your Back office before Pay by Bank is switched on.
